CHANDIGARH: Ramps and railings have come up as the biggest expectation of specially-challenged students of SD College, Sector 32, Chandigarh, who despite having a disability friendly college campus, feel the absence of ramps at a couple of places on the college premises.
A few physically-disabled students from the college while speaking to TOI expressed this demand of wanting ramps to enter the portals of the first building on the campus, which is generally used for BA classes. Tejinder Singh, a first-year student said, “I have a slight walking defect in my right leg, hence my walk is not straight. However, I study in the University of
The presence of ramps in the second building, popularly known as the BCom building for running BCom courses and other courses for BBA has made it easier for specially abled students to access the classrooms with ease and confidence. “The second building is more equipped for the benefit of specially abled students because they can climb a ramp with ease by holding a crutch because it is an inclined plane. Climbing stairs becomes difficult, which is the case in the BA building. We also have a lift for the upper floors in this building,” said Kanika, a second-year student.
Apart from the main buildings, a few specially abled students expressed the need of getting ramps made in the building behind the auditorium.
Pritampal Singh, president, student council, said, “Getting ramps made in the BA building is our
