Son exposes stepmom’s brutality
CHANDIGARH: A stepmother has been caught slapping her five-year-old daughter while her leg is in a cast and stuffing her in a gunny bag in a series of mobile videos that prompted her husband to lodge a complaint against her to the police.
Jaspreet Kaur is also accused of breaking the leg of the girl by twisting it a few months back. The brutality came to light after the elder son of Manmohan Singh, a resident of Sector 29, showed the videos he had recorded on his phone over a span of a few weeks to him around a month back.
“My son told me that their stepmother beats his sister mercilessly and sometimes puts her in a sack. But I never believed him. When he showed me the videos, I was shocked,” said Manmohan Singh.

In one of the videos, the girl’s leg is in a plaster but Jaspreet Kaur goes on slapping her and pulling her ears.
Counsellors recorded the statement of the girl a few days back. Manmohan Singh said cops from Industrial Area police station, Phase I, had visited his house and took his statement around two days back.
Devinder Singh, station house officer, Industrial Area, Phase I, said they have received the complaint but no FIR (first information report) has been registered so far. “A report has been submitted to the senior officials after recording the statements and conducting the investigation. According to the instructions of senior officers, action will be taken against the woman,” he said.
Manmohan Singh had married Jaspreet Kaur, a resident of Sector 27, in 2016 after the death of his first wife due to breast cancer. It is also the second marriage of Jaspreet Kaur. Her husband had died in a road accident. Jaspreet Kaur has also a daughter from her first husband.
Manmohan Singh said Jaspreet Kaur had tried to commit suicide and she was now living with her parents.
Manmohan Singh had shifted to the city from Belgaum, Karnataka, around seven months back.
