CHANDIGARH: After filling the slots in the electric wing of the Municipal Corporation, the authorities will be in a position now to change all street lights installed on the Madhya Marg here. The plan in this regard has been prepared and the authorities will begin the work from next week.
As per the initial survey being done by the electric wing of the Municipal Corporation, there are about 180 poles on this particular stretch of Madhya Marg, on that around 450 sodium vapour lamps will be installed.
''We have replaced all the poles, which were not in working condition on Madhya Marg and are going to install lamps in the coming week. The work would be completed by January 15'', the MC official said.
Kamal Joshi, executive engineer of the electrical wing of the MC said:'' After installing new poles and lights on the Jan Marg and Dakshin Marg and now it will cover the whole stretch of Madhya Marg, so that no light problem occurs again.''
An MC official said that earlier, the wing had shortage of employees and the electric wing had become the venue of rivalry between the officials. Officials, those were posted in this wing earlier, usually tried to defame each other. So no one wanted to join this wing, but now the things have changed. And with the recruitment of employees, the working of this wing has become normal.
It may be recalled that situation of street lights in the city had become pathetic that the police officials had informed the MC for installation of new lights.
