Sirsa man gets 20 yrs in jail for minor’s rape

Hisar: A fast track court here has convicted a youth from Sirsa for raping a minor girl from Ellenabad and sentenced him to 20-year rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs 25,000. Additional Sessions Judge Dr Naresh Singhal also directed the convict to pay Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the victim.The case relates to June 2024 when the accused, who is the victim's cousin, visited her house when her parents and family members were away. He sexually assaulted the minor, who was studying in Class X at that time and was the youngest of three siblings. The victim got pregnant due to the assault and later gave birth to a child. The matter came to light when it was reported to the police and the child welfare committee took suo motu cognisance. In her complaint to the police, the 17-year-old girl stated that the accused, who was her cousin, frequently visited their home. On that fateful day in June 2024, the family was away when he came and reportedly assaulted her. The minor delivered the baby at the civil hospital in March 2025.
