Silver idols, cash stolen from Indl Area temple

Chandigarh: Unidentified miscreants stole silver idols and Rs 25,000 from donation boxes of a temple after breaking the lock on the main gate in Industrial Area, Phase II, in the early hours of Thursday. Omkar Mishra, a caretaker of the temple, reported that he lives in a room on the premises and slept after locking the main gate on the night of September 20. When he woke up around 4 am the next day, he found locks of two donation boxes broken and Rs 25,000 missing. He found two silver idols of Goddess Kali, two silver idols of Lord Krishna and one iron idol of Shanidev missing too. Police registered a burglary case. Cops said they are scrutinising CCTV cameras installed in and around the temple to get clues about the burglars.

Two drown during idol immersion in Bapatla

Two individuals drowned while immersing Ganesh idols in Bapatla, Andhra Pradesh. The victims, Vijay and Venkatesh, were residents of Netaji Nagar in Repalle. They were part of a group that had set up a Ganesh idol in their area. During the immersion, they fell into the Krishna river and could not be rescued. Professional swimmers were called to retrieve their bodies. The incident is believed to have occurred due to a lack of precautions during the immersion process.

Two die during Chaturthi idol immersion

Two people died in separate accidents while immersing idols of Lord Vinayagar in Tiruvannamalai and Tiruppattur districts. In Tiruppattur, a 24-year-old man drowned while immersing an idol at a check dam. In Tiruvannamalai, an 18-year-old college student died after coming into contact with a short-circuited electronic speaker while preparing for the procession. The incidents highlight the need for increased safety measures during idol immersions. In Trichy, the police have issued a traffic diversion plan for the Vinayagar idol procession to ensure smooth traffic flow.
