Pehowa: A meeting of Sikh groups was held on Thursday evening in Pehowa town of Kaithal district with regard to the controversial remarks by Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) Haryana president Nishan Singh, comparing Dera chief Ram Rahim to Guru Gobind Singh.
As per the decision taken after the meeting, the Sikh groups have opened a front against him, and have given an ultimatum to Nishan up to Monday to present himself before Akal Takht to apologise, failing which his party leadership would be opposed throughout the state.
They have also urged the JJP leadership to remove Nishan from the post of Haryana president if they respect the Sikh community. The meeting was held under the leadership of Jagtar Singh Bhinder, who is a former president of Gurdwara Patshahi Chevin in Pehowa on Kaithal road.
Bhinder said: “Comparing a criminal who is convicted of rape and murder by the court with a personality like Guru Gobind Singh has hurt the sentiments of Sikhs worldwide. At the age of nine, Guru Gobind Singh’s father Guru Teg Bahadur sacrificed his life for humanity, and later Guru Gobind Singh sacrificed his four sons in the protection of this nation. Comparing a common man who is lodged in jail in a criminal case with Guru Gobind Singh is totally wrong. Just for the greed of votes, a true Sikh can never stoop this low. We have decided that if Nishan does not apologise up to Monday in front of the Akal Takht in Amritsar, then a large agitation would be initiated against him and his effigies would be burnt.”
On completion of the meeting, the Sikhs also urged the JJP high command to remove such a person from the post of state president, and if the JJP leadership respects the sentiments of Sikhs, then they must remove him with immediate effect.
