JALANDHAR/DELHI: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have arrested a suspected meber of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in connection with a shooting and arson incident outside Punjabi singer A P Dhillon’s house on British Columbia’s Victoria Island, while a second suspect who remains on the run is believed to be in India.
Lawrence, a real-life villain who has a reel-life hero on hit list, is cross with the singer over his sharing reel space with his prime target, actor Salman Khan.. On Oct 30, West Shore RCMP arrested 25-year-old Abjeet Kingra from Winnipeg in Ontario. Charged with arsoning and discharging a gun with intent, Kingra was scheduled to appear in an Ontario court. An arrest warrant has also been issued for 23-year-old Vikram Sharma, last known to reside in Winnipeg, whom police believe to be in India. Sharma is wanted on similar charges as Kingra, though RCMP have yet to obtain his photograph. He is described as 5’9” tall, weighing 80 kg, with black hair and brown eyes.
Superintendent Todd Preston, officer in charge of West Shore RCMP, said that his team had worked tirelessly to identify the suspects. He said: “We will continue to pursue this investigation and the outstanding suspect until they have been located and arrested.” The investigation stems from a Sep 2 incident when police found two vehicles on fire near Dhillon’s residence, with multiple gunshots fired into the property.
While the resident was evacuated safely, the Colwood fire department contained the vehicle fires. Following the attack, Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang claimed responsibility for the crime reportedly, with its member Rohit Godara even issuing a public warning to Dhillon via social media, referencing Dhillon’s recent music video ‘Old Money’, which featured Hindi filmstar Salman Khan, whom Bishnoi has vowed to eliminate over 1998’s black buck shooting in Rajasthan.
Godara, had asked Dhillon to not sign up for gigs with Salman Khan. Godara’s message warned Dhillon to “stay in his place or face fatal consequences”. He added in that post that: “The underworld life you emulate (on screen) is the life we live.”
Godara was last known to have shuttled between Portugal and Azerbaijan but is suspected to have escaped to the US through the donkey route. Interpol had issued a red corner notice against Godara in Dec last year following a request from Indian law enforcement agencies.
