Ferozepur: One of the two shooters allegedly involved in the June 1 murder of a shopkeeper in Ferozepur's Makhu town was injured in an encounter on Sunday evening when police took him to recover the murder weapons hidden near a canal on the outskirts of Ferozepur town.On Sunday, Punjab Police announced the arrest of the two suspects, identified as Vishnu Kumar of Bharatpur district and Rahul Mahawar of Kota district in Rajasthan, at a checkpoint on the Patnitop-Kud road near the Kud police station in Jammu and Kashmir. Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said when a police team took Kumar to the recovery site, he allegedly managed to outmanoeuvre them, retrieved one of the hidden weapons, and opened fire. The SSP said an ASI was forced to take cover behind a tree. Despite warnings to surrender, the accused allegedly fired again. Makhu station house officer (SHO) Gurmeet Singh retaliated, striking Kumar in the leg, which allowed the team to secure him. Police have admitted Kumar to the civil hospital in Zira for treatment. Two weapons have been recovered from the site. On June 1, Kumar and his associate had allegedly fired three rounds from a pistol at Gurcharan Singh Kala Gaba, the owner of Gaba General Store in Makhu's main market, killing him.
