JALANDHAR: As the party high command has already selected him, former Pathankot MLA Ashwani Sharma filed hi nomination for the post of

president on Thursday. No other candidate filed the nomination.

Several senior leaders accompanied Sharma as he filed two sets of nomination papers. The “election process” would be completed on Friday with formal announcement of his election. The nomination process was held in Circuit House, Jalandhar where party’s returning officer Anil Sareen accepted the nomination.

Meanwhile, 13 nominees for the national executive — one each from 13 parliamentary constituencies of Punjab — also submitted their nominations. Among others former Punjab minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Master Mohan Lal, Surjeet Kumar Jyani and Tikshan Sood are also the nominees for the BJP national executive.

Former police officer Iqbal Singh Lalpura, who has also authored books on Sikhism, would be the Sikh face from Punjab in the national executive. Former Delhi MP Mahesh Giri was the central observer for the election process on Thursday.

Filing nomination papers got over on Thursday evening but a formal announcement would be made in a state-level meeting on Friday afternoon, in which Sharma would formally take charge from Shwait Malik. It will be second stint of Sharma as Punjab BJP president.
