KARNAL: Farmers and farm labour along with village youth of Kurukshetra district on Thursday formed a new outfit called "Shanti Sehyog Sena" to be headed by former Haryana irrigation Minister Devinder Sharma.
The Shanti Sehyog Sena has been formed to help any Central agency which would be deputed to dig the remaining portion of SYL canal. Sena was formed at a big gathering of farmers, farm labour and youth held at village Halalpur.

Devinder Sharma told TNN that Shanti Sehyog Sena would recruit volunteers who would go to the site to assist Central agencies in digging work for expeditious construction of SYL.
The farmers gathering through a resolution expressed thanks to Mrs Sonia Gandhi for her stand that Court verdict in SYL canal case would be fully honoured. The gathering urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to immediately assign the digging work to border roads organization or other special agency so that Haryana farmers could get their share of water which was long overdue.
Farmers meet also urged Haryana State Government to take up construction of Dadupur-Nalwi canal without further delay. This canal would help farmers of Yamunanagar, Ambala, Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts.
Sharma is a first former Haryana Minister who has started enlisting support of farmers for quick construction of SYL canal instead of confining to issuing statements on the ticklish issue.
