Lieutenant Colonel Rajeev Bakshi of 13 Dogra Regiment was conferred the Sena Medal (posthumously) for gallantry.
CHANDIGARH: Lieutenant Colonel Rajeev Bakshi of 13 Dogra Regiment was on Monday conferred the Sena Medal (posthumously) for gallantry by President APJ Abdul Kalam, on the eve of Independence Day. Lt Col Bakshi, who laid down his life battling UNLF terrorists in Manipur on 20 January this year, was a resident of Panchkula, where his family of Army officers resides.
President Kalam also approved of 107 other gallantry awards, announced every year on the Independence Day eve, including two Kirti Chakra and 16 Shaurya Chakra. Lt Col Bakshi was the officiating commanding officer of the Battalion when he succumbed to bullet injuries suffered while on a nine-day continuous counterinsurgency operation in Parbung village in Churachandpur district of Manipur bordering Mizoram. Incidentally, Lt Col Bakshi's 71-year-old father Lt Col (retired) JML Bakshi was the commanding officer of the same battalion around 32 years back in the same area where his son became a martyr fighting insurgents.
