Chandigarh: Police have arrested a caretaker for allegedly stealing gold worth Rs 12 lakh and cash from a house in Sector 22. Rajeev Malhotra of Sector 70, Mohali, had hired Nayagaon resident Monika to take care of his elderly parents living in the Sector 22 house. On August 22, when he visited them, he came to know that Rs 45,000, two gold bangles, two gold sets with earrings, one gold kada (bangle), one gold locket, two gold rings, one gold mangalsutra and one gold chain were stolen from a cupboard.
He reported the matter to Sector 17 police, suspecting 36-year-old Monika of the theft. Cops arrested her from Nayagaon and claimed to recover stolen the stolen items. A court remanded her to judicial custody for 14 days.
