Second death due to contaminated water

ABOHAR: Nine days after the death of Kulwinder Kaur, who reportedly died after consuming contaminated water from a pot in Sardarpura village in

Abohar

, another woman, who had consumed water from the same pot along with five other women, died on Tuesday night.

The woman, identified as Manprit Kaur (28), a resident of Sardarpura village, was undergoing medical treatment at Sri

Guru Gobind Singh Medical College

and Hospital in Faridkot after she and five others fell unconscious in Abohar Sub-division in

Fazilka district

on April 15.

All the six were taken to the hospital. Kulwinder (60) died on the same day, while the remaining including Veerpal Kaur, Parwinder Kaur, Pammi Rani and Palwinder Kaur were discharged by the hospital on Monday. Manprit was the second casualty.

, Station House Officer, Sadar Abohar police station, said sample of water, which was taken from the pot along with some other sources in the village were sent for forensic analysis. “The viscera of Kulwinder were also sent for forensic analysis to ascertain the reason behind her death and the report is yet to receive,” he said. Police has been investigating the incident on various angles, he added.
