Hisar: A massive fire at a scrap yard on Bhuna Road in Agroha on Monday triggered panic in the Haryana town, with thick smoke engulfing the surroundings and prompting the evacuation of nearby slums as a precaution.Several fire tenders and police teams rushed to the spot after residents alerted authorities. The blaze spread rapidly through heaps of scrap material, sending flames and smoke visible from a considerable distance.A police officer was injured during the rescue while trying to remove valuables from a nearby shed to prevent the fire from spreading. Eyewitnesses said the shed collapsed suddenly, causing him to fall. He was taken to Maharaja Agrasen Medical College, Agroha, for treatment.Fearing the fire could spread to nearby settlements, authorities evacuated residents from adjoining buildings and hutments. After several hours of firefighting, officials brought the blaze under control.The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the incident occurred and assess the extent of the damage.
