PATIALA: Sangrur Police arrested six individuals in connection with pro-Khalistan slogans written in the chief minister’s native village, Satauj. The police on Thursday in Sangrur claimed to have traced and arrested six alleged individuals involved in the incident of writing pro-Khalistan slogans in the village of Satauj on February 12. The case was registered on February 12 under sections 192, 61(2) BNS, 10, and 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967 (Amendment 2012), at Dharamgarh police station based on a tip-off from a special informant.
SP (Investigation) Sangrur, Palwinder Singh Cheema, disclosed that a video was circulated on social media by Gurpatwant Singh Pannu of SFJ, declared illegal by the Govt of India. SP Cheema added that GS Pannu often engages in activities and conspiracies against the country, making inflammatory statements, and creating an atmosphere of fear and dread by inciting enmity among people of different religions and communities. The case was registered against unknown individuals due to its sensitive nature and the fear it instilled among the public, leading to an investigation.
Cheema explained that during the investigation, police teams were formed to trace the case using technical methods, following which police arrested six accused identified as Jagraj Singh alias Soni and Gurmeet Singh alias Gitti from a village in Mansa; Amritpal Singh, Baljinder Singh, Baljit Singh alias Prabhu, and Atarveer Singh alias Atar from villages in Bathinda. The arrest of one alleged individual, Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, is pending. Jagraj, Amritpal, and Baljit Singh have previous police cases registered against them.
“Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, residing abroad, is luring innocent Punjabi youth into such illegal activities with monetary incentives, aiming to spread unrest and fear in India. The alleged individuals admitted to committing the act solely for financial gain. GS Pannu, while hiding abroad, is enticing Punjabi youth with money, pushing them into crime, and ruining their future,” said SP Palwinder Singh Cheema.
