SAD complains to ECI over aid to SC students

CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) lodged a complaint with the chief electoral officer Punjab against the Punjab state government for not disbursing Rs 284 crore funds to schedule caste students.


SAD, in its representation to the election commission, said the central government has already released two grants for scholarships worth Rs 284 crores till March 5.

SAD claimed dalit students are facing financial problems and the colleges have refused to invite them on convocations as they could not pay their college fees due to state government's failure to release the funds on time.

The members of the delegation stated that degrees of 2,000 schedule caste and schedule tribe students were recently withheld by

Panjab University

due to non-payment of fee.

The delegation comprising, Pawan Kumar Tinu, Sukhwinder Sukhi,

Baldev Singh

Khaira, Retd Justice Nirmal Singh and Darshan Singh Shivjot, urged the commission to take immediate action against the state government and save the students from sufferings.

SAD also accused the state government for misuse of grants and asked the election commission to take action against officers involved in it.
