CHANDIGARH: As the rupee plunges to new depths, students are becoming apprehensive about the idea of studying abroad. But they are not yet giving up on their dream though they may have to shell out more than they had planned. Monami Mitra, a graduate from PU University of Business Studies, is still optimistic about studying mass communication in Canada. "I have been saving to go to Canada for about 3 years now and I will not let this economic catastrophe bring me down," she says.
Neha Thakur, who is pursuing her MSc. in biotechnology, is another city student showing a similar resolve. She is almost through with her degree and is keen to work in Boston. "I am surprised that the rupee has fallen so low. It definitely makes the journey highly difficult, as it is more expensive now. But I will still go and hopefully, get the advantage of the rupee's low value vis-A -vis the dollar if I get a job there." Kiranjit Kaur hoping to pursue her PhD in microbiology from a university in the US is thrown off by the fall. "But, I am not canceling my plans. I might postpone my trip".
