HISAR: On Friday, dhaba operators and others attacked the team of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) secretary to avoid the operation against overloaded vehicles parked in the parking lot of Chaudhary Dhaba and Fauji Dhaba located near Juglan village of Hisar, when the team started the challan process.
Hisar police said that a case has been registered on the complaint of inspector Bijendra Gautam against dhaba operators Ajay, Azad and
Sunil and unknown persons under sections 147 (rioting), 149 (common object of unlawful assembly), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
An investigation into the matter has also been started.
Inspector Lalit, who was the member of the RTA team that was attacked, said that while they were challaning the overloaded vehicles on Friday, the team seized about 15 trucks and fined them more than Rs 8 lakh. At the same time, the dhaba operators and others interfered and scuffled with the team lead by the RTA secretary. He said that both these dhabas near Juglan village are opposite to each other.
Upon getting the information about the RTA checking, the dhaba owners asked the drivers to park their overloaded trucks in their premises, and asked them to go elsewhere. When the team started challaning these vehicles, they started fighting with the team, he added.
