CHANDIGARH: Gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 18 lakh was stolen from a room of a Delhi-based businessman in Hotel Park Plaza in Sector 17. The theft occurred on August 16 but a case was registered on Monday night after a complaint was lodged at Sector 17 police station
Simranjeet Singh Bakshi from Rajouri Garden, New Delhi, claimed the hotel staff had noted down a written complaint from him, promising the management would lodge an FIR, but failed to keep its word.
Bakshi along with his family had stayed at room number 506 for three days since August 14 for attending a marriage function.
The stolen valuables included two diamond and six gold bracelets and two heavy gold bangles.
In his complaint to the police, he stated he along with his wife, Surmeet Kaur, had left the room for attending "sangeet" at the house of their relatives. Before leaving, he had requested housekeeping to clean the room on August 16. The theft came to light the same day when the couple returned and found valuables missing around 8 pm.
Inspector Dilsher Singh Chandel of Sector 17 police station said, "We were surprised to know that hotel staff members had assured the victim that the management will lodge the FIR. We have asked hotel staff to submit CCTV footage of August 16."
In his complaint, Bakshi suspected the hand of three to four hotel employees in the theft. A case was registered at Sector 17 police station.
