Bathinda: Punjab and Haryana remain under a "yellow alert" as a severe heatwave pushed temperatures to 44.6°C in Rohtak and 44.3°C in Bathinda and Faridkot. These conditions are expected to persist through Sunday.
According to IMD, the mercury has risen significantly above seasonal norms, with temperatures recorded up to 5°C higher than usual. On Friday alone, both states saw an average temperature rise of 0.5°C. In addition to the daytime heat, Haryana is experiencing "warm night" conditions, while gusty winds of 33 kmph have been reported in Faridkot and Sonipat.
However, relief is expected from Sunday as a Western Disturbance over southwest Rajasthan is likely to trigger isolated light to moderate rain across both states till April 30.
