chandigarh:the demolition of houses in dev colony, delhi-rohtak road, rohtak, has been stayed by the punjab and haryana high court which also directed the district country and town planner, there, to consider and take a decision on the representation of the petitioner-residents. a division bench comprising justices n k sodhi and jasbir singh ordered this on a writ petition filed by raj bala and six other residents of the colony who had sought intervention of the court to direct the respondents not to dismantle the houses constructed for sometime now in the colony.
it was submitted by the petitioners that they had represented to the district country and town planner, rohtak in this regard, but no decision had so far been taken. justices sodhi and singh, while staying the demolition of the properties of the petitioners till a decision was taken on their representation, also directed the district country and town planner to take a final decision in the matter in accordance with law within a period of two months, by passing a speaking order. election petition justice r l anand, on wednesday, reserved the judgment on the election petition preferred by the defeated congress candidate,mehendra pratap singh, against the victorious former minister and bharatiya janata party nominee, kishan pal gujjar, from the mewala maharajpur constituency of haryana vidhan sabha, in the general elections held in february 2000. gujjar was re-elected from the constituency, but the petition had been preferred on grounds of alleged electoral malpractices. former mla's plea dismissed a division bench of justices h s bedi and a s garg, on wednesday, dismissed the application filed for recalling the orders of the high court for issuing bailable arrest warrants against former punjab mla baldev singh bhatti and his companion balwant singh, in connection with the alleged kidnapping, raping and subsequently killing of a young nurse who had been brought to chandigarh by the accused on the pretext of securing confirmation of her job. a case was registered against them at dharamkot police station in district moga in 1993. however, bhatti and his companions were acquitted by the additional district and session judge, ferozepur, in april this year, but the high court allowed the appeal filed by the state government against them, culminating in the issuance of arrest warrants. the two alleged that they had falsely been implicated due to political motive, but the judges declined to entertain the plea and dismissed the application filed in this regard. dto summoned a division bench of justices amarbir singh gill and swatanter kumar, on wednesday, directed the district transport officer, kurukshetra to appear in person in the court in connection with the writ petition filed by hari travels, connaught circus, new delhi, alleging illegal impounding of their tourist bus no. dlip-a 4894, at pipli, on national highway number 1, on october 26, this year. the bench also order the release of the bus forthwith. ppsc case the writ petition filed against the chairman of the punjab public service commission by harjit kaur randhawa and two other members of the commission would be heard on a day-to-day basis from november 21, the high court ordered this on wednesday. they have prayed that the commission, being a multi-member constitutional body, should function as such, alleging that the chairman was not taking other members into confidence. earlier, there were attempts made to resolve the issue outside the court but these appeared to have proved futile.
