According to the prosecution, the case dated back to March 6, 2021, when a complaint was lodged at Urban Estate police station by Harkesh Chauhan, a resident of Model Town Extension. Chauhan, who runs a stationery and general store, stated that he and his son were present at the shop when the accused arrived on a motorcycle in the afternoon.
As per the complaint, one of the youths entered the shop and asked to see undergarments, while the other remained seated on the motorcycle outside. When the shopkeeper turned to fetch the item, the accused allegedly opened the counter drawer and decamped with a bag containing Rs 20,000 in cash. When the shopkeeper's son tried to stop him, the accused slapped him and threatened to kill him. He also allegedly threatened the shopkeeper before fleeing the spot along with his accomplice.
The complainant noted down the motorcycle's registration number, based on which police identified and arrested the accused. After trial, the court found Arun alias Kaku guilty and awarded the sentence, while proceedings against the absconding co-accused will continue as per law.
