on Sunday accused his political rivals — AAP, SAD and BJP — of seeking votes from the followers of Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda, which has a considerable following in Punjab.

In September 2020, BJP and SAD (B) had broken their ties over the three contentious farm laws. Channi posted another tweet, saying: “Bhagwant Mann and AAP have also sought dera support in Dhuri. All this desperation by these parties and reports suggest Congress is forming Government in Punjab with majority”. Mann is contesting elections from Dhuri.

Though he did not name anyone, his remarks were aimed at AAP chief ministerial candidate Bhagwant Mann over a supposed drinking problem. Mann had called Channi a “chowkidar” (watchman) who kept meeting people at midnight. Transport minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, too, claimed that Congress will retain power. Cabinet minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who is Congress candidate from Ludhiana West, cast his vote with family.
