'Rehri' owner slaps MC sub-inspector

CHANDIGARH: A sub-inspector with enforcement wing of municipal corporation, Rakesh Gupta, was slapped in full public view during an anti-encroachment drive in Sector 22 on Thursday.
The incident took place when Gupta tried to remove the unauthorized 'rehri' of vendor Ajay Rana from near Shastri Market-22. Police said Ajay entered into a heated argument with members of enforcement wing and later slapped the sub-inspector.
This led to conundrum in the market as supporters of each side rushed to the spot.
Police sources said Ajay had been running his business for a line time and had been challaned twice earlier.
Sub-inspector Rajeev Kumar said three police parties were rushed to the market and the situation came back to normal after Ajay was nabbed.
He said Gupta had lodged a complaint against the accused and a case had been registered. The accused would be produced in district courts-17 on Friday.
This is the third such incident during the past one-and-a-half months.
