CHANDIGARH: As the seats available under the economically weaker section quota in government and private unaided remain vacant, UT education administration has taken the initiative of spreading awareness among the city residents with the help of two radio stations.
''After declaration by the court that the seats should be filled by March 23, we planned to hire a medium that could reach masses,'' said Sandeep Hans, DPI (Schools).
Steps were taken to make the people aware of the seats under the 15% EWS quota by advertising the names of schools that have vacancies at the entry level, he said.
Private schools have already begun with the process. Recently, DAV School, Sector 15, held a one-day NSS camp in which the students went to colonies of Sector 25 and informed the residents.
''The awareness camps are suitable for the entry level classes as it would take more time time and the delay would not affect the studies much. A door-to-door campaign is a better option,'' said Rakesh Sachdeva, principal of DAV School, Sector 15.
Few NGOs were also approached for the initiative. ''About 25 NGO have been asked to create responsiveness towards the EWS seats available for session beginning from April 1. Informing people through them would be a good idea,'' said Hans. Pamphlets would also be distributed.
