Punjab’s tax surge Rs 265 cr, claims FM
Chandigarh: Punjab's April revenue surged following double-digit growth in value-added tax (VAT) and state development tax (PSDT) collections. Finance minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced a combined ₹265 crore increase on Sunday, crediting the boost to stringent enforcement and transparent administration.VAT collections rose 23.28%, adding about ₹230 crore to the state exchequer. Simultaneously, PSDT revenue grew by 20.43%, contributing an additional ₹35 crore. Cheema attributed the performance to enhanced monitoring and improved compliance protocols. He claims that administrative reforms rather than new levies have driven the financial boost for financial year 2026-27, and that it's a sign of sustained momentum in the state's tax framework.MSID:: 130735855 413 |
