CHANDIGARH: Panjab University syndicate in its meeting has decided not to go in for a hike the tuition fee and admission fee of all its courses by 10 per cent from academic session 2004-05.

<div class="section1"><div class="Normal">CHANDIGARH: Panjab University syndicate in its meeting on Saturday has decided not to go in for its earlier plan for a 25 per cent fee hike for its professional courses but to hike the tuition fee and admission fee of all its courses by 10 per cent from academic session 2004-05. <br /><br />Earlier, the committee had recommended an increase of 25 per cent of fees for the professional courses including engineering, law, management and commerce and for other non-professional courses by 10 per cent.

<br /><br />But the members of the syndicate said that since the university had already decided to increase the fee by 10 percent each year for all the courses in 1999, the syndicate should stick to the decision. <br /><br />The syndicate has passed the budgetary deficit of Rs 54.72 crore for the financial year 2004-05 as had already been approved by the board of finance in its recent meeting. <br /><br />However, Punjab government, who has to fund 40 percent of the university budget, was again reminded by the syndics to pay up the already piled up arrears to the tune of Rs 16.55 crore. <br /><br /><formid=367815><br /><br /></formid=367815></div> </div><div class="section2"><div class="Normal"><br />Heated discussions ensued pension debate in the meeting with members urging the university and the vice chancellor Prof K N Pathak to take steps for the immediate implementation of pension scheme, which till now have eluded the university employees. <br /><br />Some syndics also expressed their displeasure over the formation of committees on the issue, which bears little positive result. <br /><br />The recommendations of the faculty of engineering and technology to allow diploma holders to get a lateral entry into the degree courses was deferred and the UGC guidelines for introduction of career orientation programme was also deferred. <br /><br />Syndicate has not approved the proposed increase in house rent charges of different categories of campus houses but has only gave its nod for hike in water charges. <br /><br />A further enquiry is suggested in the case of J S Rathore of department of correspondence studies, to probe into the allegations levelled against him for improper professional conduct. <br /><br />The post of Joint registrar as demanded by the senior most deputy registrar H C Malhotra has been approved by the syndicate and the transfer of teaching posts form one department to another has also been approved. The recommendation of the youth welfare committee to disallow those colleges, which do not deposit annual youth welfare fee in time to PU, was also passed. <br /><br /><formid=367815><br /></formid=367815></div> </div>
