CHANDIGARH: Amid the controversy over appointment of the1988 batch

as officiating DGP, the
Punjab government on Thursday sent a panel of 10 eligible IPS officers to the Union Public Service Commission (
UPSC) for the selection of its new police chief.
As per the Supreme Court verdict of July 3, 2018, the Punjab government has sent the names of 10 eligible officers in the panel from 1986-batch to 1991-batch. The UPSC would now convene a meeting and send a list of three suitable officers for the post to Punjab.
Officers from 5 IPS batches in listIn turn, the state government will appoint one of them as the state police head. The IPS officers in the panel include Siddharth Chattopadhyaya (1986 batch), Dinkar Gupta (1987), MK Tiwari (1987), VK Bhawra (1987),
Prabodh Kumar
(1988),
Rohit Choudhary (1988), Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota (1988),
Sanjeev Kalra
(1989), Parag Jain (1989), and Barjinder Kumar Uppal (1991 batch). After the new council of ministers took over under chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi earlier this month, the incumbent Punjab police chief Dinkar Gupta was sent on one month leave and the officiating charge of the state police head was handed over to Sahota.
