TARN TARAN: A police sub-inspector was killed, and an assistant sub-inspector was injured during a shootout in Tarn Taran between two parties on Thursday.
The incident occurred when a police party from Sri Goindwal Sahib police station went to the village of Kot Muhammad Khan to resolve a dispute between two groups, informed senior superintendent of police Abhimanyu Rana.
A scuffle broke out between the parties, leading to gunfire. Sub-inspector Charanjit Singh sustained a fatal bullet injury and passed away despite being rushed to the hospital, while Assistant Sub-Inspector Jasbir Singh was injured.
The senior superintendent of police said that cases were registered against over twenty persons from both groups, and three weapons were recovered from their possession, adding that investigations are being carried out to get to the depth of the incident.
