NEW DELHI: Punjab Police on Thursday busted a cross-border drug and arms smuggling network, arresting two accused and seizing 4.108 kg of heroin.Amritsar Police also recovered four sophisticated pistols and five live cartridges from their possession, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said.Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers through social media platforms and were receiving consignments of narcotics and weapons for distribution across Punjab, he said in a post on X.A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act at Cantonment police station in Amritsar.Further investigations are underway to trace the network’s forward and backward linkages and identify other associates involved, the DGP added.(With agency inputs)
