The residents allegedly assaulted the cop and the man, identified as Darshan Singh, and then shot a video accusing the drug nexus between the police and the man suspected to be a drug supplier.

A video showing the mob from Bhatti Basti in Dharamkot town blaming the cop being hand in glove with some drug smugglers has been making the rounds over social media.

However, the police had claimed a different story, that it was a clash that took place between some villagers and the cop identified as head constable

Dalbir Singh

.

The police said that Dalbir had gone to the residence of Dilbagh Singh in Dharamkot after Dilbagh had landed in a fray with a couple living on rent in his house when he was not on official duty. The cop had also consumed liquor at Dilbagh’s house and then misbehaved with women in the house.

“The clash took place between the cop and a group of people including Dilbagh Singh. The residents had spread a rumour that Dalbir and Darshan of the Rerwan village were involved in drug smuggling. We have registered the case against head constable Dalbir Singh and Darshan Singh whereas a cross case was registered against Dilbagh Singh and his two sons,” said DSP

Yadwinder Singh

Bajwa.
