Punjab government sets up health camps in flood-hit areas, over 51,000 people attended on day one

The Punjab government has set up special health camps in flood-affected areas of the state, with more than 51,000 people attending on the first day of the campaign.

According to an official report from the health department on September 15, health camps have been held in 2,016 of the 2,303 targeted villages. A total of 51,612 people have received health check-ups, treatment, and medicines at these camps.

"In 1,929 villages, ASHA workers have visited homes and screened 132,322 families for health issues, providing medicines and medical kits where needed," the report stated. The kits include ORS, paracetamol, anti-septic, band-aids, creams and other essential medicines.


The government said that cleanliness drives and vector-control measures are also being carried out. Inspections for mosquito breeding have been conducted in 1,861 villages covering 108,770 homes. Larvae were found in 2,163 homes, after which larvicide was sprayed in 23,630 homes. Fogging has been carried out in 878 villages.

Officials added that these measures aim to reduce the risk of diseases such as dengue and malaria in the aftermath of floods.
