NEW DELHI: Congress' Kuldeep Singh Dhillon emerged victorious in the Punjab byelection to the Barnala assembly seat, securing a win by 2,147 votes over his nearest rival, AAP's Harinder Singh Dhaliwal.
The bypolls to four assembly segments in Punjab—Barnala, Gidderbaha, Chabbewal, and Dera Baba Nanak—were held on November 20, following the election of the previous MLAs to the Lok Sabha earlier this year.
The counting of votes began on Saturday morning, and trends in the initial hours showed a dynamic shift in positions across the constituencies.
In Barnala, AAP had initially led with Dhaliwal ahead of Dhillon, but the situation turned in Dhillon's favor as the counting progressed.
The final tally saw Kuldeep Singh Dhillon consolidating his lead and sealing a crucial win for Congress in the region.
