Fazilka: Taking note of a TOI report highlighting the plight of students at a govt primary school in Basti Hazur Singh, Fazilka district — where they are forced to study in a roofless classroom — Punjab education minister Harjot Singh Bains has ordered reconstruction of the building and directed officials to start immediate remedial work.
In a swift response to concerns over deteriorating infrastructure, the minister assured that a new structure would be completed within six months and stated that he would personally oversee the transformation process.

"The poor condition of the school in Basti Hazur was brought to my notice and directions were given to the concerned officials to take immediate action," he said, adding that he would personally visit the school shortly.
"This school will have a new building within the next six months, and it is not a political statement but a personal guarantee," Bains said.
Highlighting the larger infrastructure challenge, the education minister noted that Punjab has nearly 20,000 govt schools, many of which were in extremely poor condition due to decades of neglect. The Mann govt transformed hundreds of schools in the past few years, with renovation and upgradation works progressing at full pace. "Transforming all schools is a journey, and the govt is steadily marching towards that goal with commitment and transparency," he added.
