Panjab University is planning allow research scholars the access to laboratory without giving hostel facilities to them. This was decided in a committee meeting that was held under the chairmanship of dean university of instructions R K Singla on Monday.

CHANDIGARH: Panjab University is planning allow research scholars the access to laboratory without giving hostel facilities to them. This was decided in a committee meeting that was held under the chairmanship of dean university of instructions R K Singla on Monday.
The university has asked the registrar Vikram Nayyar to write a letter to the Chandigarh administration seeking permission by mentioning the restrictions they are planning to impose on scholars.

During the meeting, the chief medical officer (CMO) of PU said it was not possible to allow the scholars in hostels, as the cases inside campus have increased a lot. The CMO said if need be, they can be allowed to access department laboratory. It is decided to bring to attention of the UT administration that as three hostels were converted into quarantine centres by the health department, the campus is treated as a contaminated zone.
The committee has decided to allow only scholars who have completed three years and needed access to the labs. The scholars will be allowed in phases so that social distancing norms can be followed.
The dean research will collate the data of research scholars who need lab access from every department. The university will take an undertaking from the scholars that they will visit the labs without seeking hostel facility.
