CHANDIGARH: The indefinite hunger strike by two students of Panjab University that began two days back, ended on Wednesday following a nod by university authorities to the hike TA-DA for sportspersons from Rs 125 to Rs 190.

It was after a 20-day dialogue between PUSU and PU authorities failed that two students, Sumit Goklaney and Gursimran Singh, went on indefinite hunger strike on Monday.
Sumit, after calling off the indefinite hunger strike on Wednesday said, "Our primary demand to hiking the TA-DA has been accepted by the Panjab University authorities. The entire student fraternity would benefit from this, as sportspersons represent PU nationally and internationally."
"The re-soiling and fencing of respective grounds of hockey, football and 400 metres track will be done from next week onwards and it will be monitored monthly by the PU authority and we would be informed about its progress," said Sumit.
Gursimran Singh, who was also on indefinite hunger strike, said, "A major hiccup during the last two days of protest was the clash between the authorities and students. A fact which was known to sports department was not known to the dean student welfare or the vice-chancellor."
Pointing out the delay in construction of the shooting range in PU, PUSU president Sukhjit Singh Brar said, "We will not let the university authorities remain inactive since construction of shooting range that began 18 months ago is still hanging in balance. We will be monitoring the progress of the work on the ground."
