PU officials meet student council, discuss SOPs

Chandigarh: PU authorities held a meeting with student council office-bearers and executive department representatives Friday to discuss newly introduced SOPs concerning student activities, conduct and governance. The SOPs were formulated by a committee led by Prof Nandita Singh and later approved by the vice-chancellor. They cover several aspects of student life, including restrictions on event formats, regulation of student trips, and reservation in student council elections.Of the four elected office-bearers, only president Anurag Dalal and vice-president Archit Garg were present in the meeting with dean (student welfare) Amit Chauhan. General secretary Vineet Yadav and joint secretary Jasvinder Rana skipped the meeting. Executive representatives from various departments were also present. All attendees were asked to submit their written suggestions and objections to the SOPs, if any, by Monday.Among the changes, the university has banned star nights at festivals organised by students, citing safety and logistical concerns. A university-approved calendar for all council events has also been proposed to prevent clashes and ensure coordination. A key electoral change included in the SOPs is the reservation of one seat in the PU Campus Student Council for a female candidate.
