PU campus adopts vertical garden idea
Ludhiana: A ‘vertical plantation drive’ was organized at Panjab University Regional Centre (PURC), Ludhiana, on Tuesday. The drive was executed by the faculty and students of PURC in association with the green team of income tax department, led by chief commissioner of income tax Binay K Jha and additional commissioner Rohit Mehra.
Dr Meera Nagpal, assistant professor, PURC, said, “The noble idea of vertical plantation was initiated by our director Prof Ravi Inder Singh and the event was coordinated by faculty members and assisted by students’ volunteer committee ‘Help Me Survive’.”
About 300 plants of four different species (money plant, singoria, lal batti, tukri bail) were planted along the outer wall of the campus. The wall was chosen for vertical garden as it directly faces one of the busiest roads in the city, hence, it would be helpful in creating awareness among citizens, she said.
Later CCIT Binay K Jha, Mehra and Prof Ravi Inder Singh addressed the students stating the value of the plantation and appreciating them for the thought of helping the nature survive. In the end, green home decor plants were given as a token of thanks to the guests.
