Patiala: Members of the Technical Services Union (TSU) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) held a massive dharna causing traffic jams on the Mall Road on Wednesday.
Employees along with their families participated in the sit-in to protest against Punjab government for allegedly not recruiting people to fill up vacancies in PSPCL.
Police diverted traffic to the Baradari route to avoid problems for commuters.
Parmod Kumar, general secretary of TSU, alleged the employees were recruited on a contractual basis which was discriminatory.
TSU members alleged that the state government had increased the role of private companies in PSPCL, which was a public sector undertaking (PSU). Public exchequer was being exploited for making large payments to private operators, they further claimed.
"PSPCL is dismissing TSU members or transferring them to far off places. Hundreds of activists have been placed under suspension and they will ultimately be dismissed," alleged Parmod.
The TSU dharna was supported by various unions of farmers and daily wagers.
