Rohtak: The property ID issue has emerged as a key flashpoint in the Sampla municipal committee chairperson election, shaping voter sentiment ahead of the May 10 polling.The contest has turned multi-cornered, with BJP's Parveen Coach and independents Rakesh Sarpanch, Sudhir Ohlyan, Ankit Ohlyan and Anil Sharma in the fray. With no Congress candidate, the campaign has become largely local, with civic issues dominating over party politics.Residents across wards have flagged problems in the property ID system, including incorrect entries, delays in correction and repeated visits to offices. Some have also alleged harassment and corruption during the process.Observers say the system, aimed at streamlining records and taxation, has triggered public resentment due to implementation gaps. The issue now dominates campaign rhetoric, along with sanitation, water shortage and sewerage concerns.Independent candidate Rakesh Sarpanch has raised the issue prominently, alleging harassment of residents and promising time-bound resolution of pending cases. He also flagged lack of development as a concern.A resident alleged he had to pay Rs 2,000 to get a property ID despite having complete documents.
