CHANDIGARH: Panjab University on Friday appointed alumni-turned-professor Simrit Kahlon of geography department as dean students’ welfare (women) for a period of one year.

A PU alumna, Kahlon graduated from the varsity’s geography department in 1989, and then went on to pursue her masters, M Phil and her Ph D in 2005 at PU itself. She has academic and teaching experience of 27 years, and has also published various researches.

Kahlon has written extensively on various geopolitical issues, especially on national security and defence-related issues in the Kashmir valley. Some of her other researches are on topics such as Guru Nanak’s Sidh Gost, and international migration from India.

She has also been the chairperson of the geography department at PU and the warden of girls hostel number 7.
