Chandigarh: Pro-Khalistan slogans were painted on a board at former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh’s memorial in Sector 42 here on Republic Day on Thursday, leading the police to register a case under Sections of Delhi Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, 2007. Raj Kumar, sub-inspector posted at Sector 36 police station, said that he and a constable were patrolling in the area to keep a tab on anti-social elements. As they reached near the Beant Singh Memorial, they noticed someone had written “Khalistan Zindabad” and SFJ (Sikhs for Justice) with blue ink in Punjabi and English on both sides of the board installed on the road opposite the furniture market. Cops said they are checking CCTV footage of the area to get clues about the vandals. Beant Singh was assassinated in a suicide bomb at the Punjab Secretariat in August 1995. Many terrorists were arrested and most of them were later convicted.
