Positive thinking, physical activity for good mental health

organised a webinar titled, 'Overcoming Depression: Don’t Let The Clouds Block Your Sunshine' on Friday. Counselling psychologist-cum-writer,

Dr Jacksan Judan Fernandes

was the main speaker for the event.
Skilled in various psychological therapies, Fernandes talked about his interest in the fields and sub-fields of psychology which deals with religion, color and humor therapy and even yoga. The association members were also a part of the webinar which talked in detail about depression and its symptoms. Fernandes explained the types and causes of depression and said it's not a weakness of character and can be treated.
He stressed on positive thinking, healthy lifestyle and involving in physical activity to attain better mental health. Besides yoga, the speaker also highlighted breathing exercises. Later, he discussed differences in male and female depression. He closed the session by saying that depression is treatable and people who have been depressed have gone on to enjoy life, be productive and have good relationships with family and friends. Those who took part in the virtual event included Seema Vinayak, chairperson, department of psychology and Deepti Gupta, dean (alumni association).
