Addressing media persons, Toor, who is based in the United States said she was Sidhu’s sister from the same mother, Nirmal Bhagwant. Referring to an interview to an English magazine on November 15, 1987, she claimed that Sidhu had lied that his parents had a judicial separation when he was two years old. She alleged that it was only to deprive his mother and sisters of their “due place” in their family and “usurp family property”.

Suman Toor has accused the Punjab Congress leader of not giving “their mother due place” after the death of their father

Responding to the allegations, Dr Navjot said Toor did not disclose that when her mother got married to Sidhu’s father she already had two daughters. Later, the couple (Navjot’s parents) had separated when Sidhu was seven-year-old.

“When I got married, Navjot was his father’s only child and that’s what his will also said. His father was married to a lady who had two daughters from a previous marriage. She later took divorce and left the house with her daughters. Navjot obviously has nothing to do with them. Why is this thing brought up now?”

Senior Congress leader

Sunil Jakhar

tweeted: “Politics hits a new low in Punjab! It is despicable that to settle political scores even the most pious relation between a sister and brother has not been spared.”
