CHANDIGARH: The agitated farmers of Punjab and Haryana protesting against the new farm laws are now getting restive and have started venting their ire against political leaders, be they from the ruling party or the opposition.

Scores of farmers in Raisar village of

raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh after they came to know that state revenue minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar is to visit the sports stadium in the village. However, sensing the mood of villagers, Kangar skipped the meeting at the last moment and former MLA Harchand Kaur Ghanauri came in his place.

Earlier, the farmers had not allowed Congress MLA from Bhucho Pritam Singh Kotbhai to address the farmers at a protest in Goniana of Bathinda.

In Haryana, agitated farmers on Friday showed black flags and raised slogans against Sirsa MP Sunita Duggal of BJP during her visit to Odhan village in the district.

According to an official spokesperson, the MP was visiting Odhan to guide the party workers on how to give the right information about the three agri-marketing acts to the farmers. Sirsa BJP chief Aditya Chautala, among others, also accompanied her.

When they reached Odhan, the villagers gathered there and showed them black flags and raised slogans against the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in Haryana.

Protests at 68 locations

Bathinda: Protests by 31 farm organisations continued at 68 places across Punjab on Friday. The farmers protested at 30 locations on railway tracks, 21 petrol pumps of Reliance and Essar groups, at six toll plazas, three shopping malls, two silos, a thermal power plant and at the residences of five BJP leaders.

The farmers protested at Mansa railway station by removing their shirts. Former MLA Hardev Arshi said that protests would continue till their demands of legal sanctity to MSP and written guarantee of purchasing crops at MSP are given or the acts are not rolled back.
