PATIALA: Pop singer Daler Mehndi’s wife Daljit Kaur and Balwinder Kaur, wife of Shamsher Mehndi, appeared before the SSP on Monday and joined the investigation into the illegal human trafficking case registered against the Mehndi brothers and some others.
SSP AS Rai and SP (City) RL Monga, who is head of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), questioned them for around three hours.
They have been asked to appear again on Tuesday before the investigation team for further questioning.
Interestingly, both Daljit and Balwinder had submitted an application recently to SSP Patiala AS Rai claiming that they were innocent.
Speaking to Times News Network, Rai said that both women would present documentary evidence to establish that they had no role in this case. Besides, they also assured police that they would produce some witnesses to prove that they were not present at the places mentioned by some complainants in their complaints.
Rai, replying to a question, said that prima facia there was no proof of their involvement but the police would thoroughly probe evidence and witnesses presented by them.
‘‘Any challan against them would be filed only if any proof against them was found. Otherwise, the police would discharge them from the case,’’ the SSP said. Within five to six days, the police would complete its investigation regarding their alleged role in this case, he added.
