PANCHKULA: Within less than 10 days of expressing her public outburst against her son and daughter-in-law, Kamla Sharma, mother of suspended inspector-general of Haryana police Ravi Kant Sharma who is in jail for his alleged role in the Shivani murder case, made an unsuccessful attempt to shift some household goods from the family's posh Sector 6 house here on Thursday.

However, the aged mother, who was accompanied by four youths, was frustrated in her attempt by the police and had to return empty-handed after the servant rang up the local police post for assistance. Within minutes, a posse of over two dozen policemen, led by Sector 5 police station house officer (SHO) Inspector Phool Chand, arrived at the house and prevented Kamla from removing her claimed belongings, including an air-conditioner and a refrigerator. Eye witnesses said that Kamla was engaged in long and heated arguments with the policemen, who told her to come when her daughter-in-law Madhu Sharma was at home. Kamla, who owns the house, is currently living in her daughter's flat at Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra, Chandigarh. ''Our job was to maintain law and order. We told mata ji to come in the presence of 'madam' (Madhu), who was expected to return from Delhi later in the day,'' said police post incharge sub-inspector Raj Kumar. ''Since 'madam' has instructed us to open the house whenever mata ji comes, we allowed her inside. But we were not familiar with the four youths who accompanied her, so told them to stay out,'' Madhu's servant told reporters. While Madhu's servant and a family lawyer alleged that Kamla had barged into the house with four ''antisocial'' elements, the police believed that one of the four youths was Ravi Kant Sharma's nephew (sister's son), while two were labourers, brought along to physically remove the refrigerator and the air-conditioner. This is the second time the police have intervened to stop Kamla from taking away her belongings from the house. Two months ago, R K Sharma's younger daughter had lodged a complaint against her cousin, who had then accompanied Kamla to have the belongings removed. ''It is really unfortunate that she is being used by vested interests who want to grab property. They also want to divert our attention from Ravi's case. That is why she makes such attempts when we are away to Delhi. Except for a couple of almirahs, she does not have even a single thing left in the house ever since she shifted to Manimajra,'' claimed Madhu, who arrived at her residence three hours after the incident. ''If it is a humiliation for us, then it is humiliating for mama as well, as also for those who sent her to our house,'' she said.
