JIND: The Jind police has arrested a 20-year-old Bachelor of Arts (BA first year) student for allegedly circulating a "morphed obscene video" of an International female wrestler of
Haryana.
The accused has been identified as Amit alias Akashy Ravan, a resident of Barwala town of Hisar district who allegedly made it viral to get more impressions or followers on his account.
Addressing a press conference, Ravi Khundia, deputy Superintendent of police (DSP) said that sadar police station had received a complaint from International woman wrestler’s father that her daughter’s picture was used in a "morphed video" and it was circulated on various social media platforms.
"The Jind CIA-1 team nabbed the youth, Amit of Barwala, who had used the wrestler’s picture in an obscene video and made it viral with an intention to get more followers and impressions on his social media accounts. We have taken him on remand and during interrogation, we will question him to unearth the entire matter. The matter is being investigated thoroughly. But it has come to light that it was a doctored video and circulateed to defame the women wrestler. Prime facie it came to light that that the accused has no criminal records and booked under Information and Technology act, 66" , said Ravi Khundia.
People are urged that the DSP further urged the people not to share the doctored video, other action will be taken against those who will share it on social media platforms in future. Moreover, police teams will approach officials of social media platforms to take action on such persona found sharing the fake video.
In the morphed video, a woman was allegedly seen with a man in objectionable situation who also came before the Jind media where he clarified that their faces were used in the video to defame them.
