Kurukshetra: A fast track special Ccourt in Kurukshetra district has sentenced a Pocso Act convict to 5 years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 55,000. The sentence was awarded by the court of the additional district and sessions judge.
According to the Kurukshetra district attorney, the convict, Vishal, a resident of Ladwa, Kurukshetra district, was found guilty in a case registered on the complaint of a local woman. In her complaint, the woman stated that she has 3 children, and that her eldest daughter, a minor studying in Class IX at a govt school, went to school on Oct 14, 2023.

Upon learning that the school was closed, the girl was returning home when the accused allegedly molested her, asked her to sit in his car, and threatened to kill her when she raised an alarm, before fleeing the scene. Following the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections.
The investigation was conducted by sub-inspector Kamlesh Kumari, during which the accused was arrested and sent to judicial custody as per court orders. After completion of the investigation, the challan was presented before the court.
After regular hearings, the court, on Feb 23, 2026, convicted the accused on the basis of witness testimony and documentary evidence. Vishal was sentenced to 5 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) under Section 8 (punishment for sexual assault) of the POCSO Act and a Rs 25,000 fine (2 months' additional imprisonment in default); 3 years' RI each under Section 363 (kidnapping) and Section 365 (kidnapping with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with a fine of Rs 10,000 each (1 month's additional imprisonment in default in each case); 1 year's RI under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and a fine of Rs 5,000 (1 week's additional imprisonment in default); and 1 month's RI under Section 341 (wrongful restraint) of the IPC, with a fine of Rs 500 (1 week's additional imprisonment in default).
