PANCHKULA: Though bus service is available for citizens from the bus stand to other cities, states and nearby villages,
Panchkula residents are demanding city bus service on the lines of Chandigarh. They want the bus service to cover all sectors of the city.
Members of the Citizen Welfare Association (CWA) raised the demand for local ring bus service to each sector of Panckula with the state transport commissioner, Haryana.
CWA president S K Nayar said that the local bus service facility was first started in Panchkula in October 1992 but was discontinued on financial grounds.
CWA members said that while there was a bus service, it did not cover the city. Officials of
Haryana Roadways, Panchkula said that the state headquarters had been informed about the demand and they had been promised 50 electric buses for the city. They added that the local bus service for each sector would be started soon after the arrival of the new electric buses to be used in the city.
CWA president Nayar said, “Panchkula city residents, especially trans-Ghaggar residents are affected by the poor transport facility for city residents. The administration must provide public transport, which is a basic need of residents.”
Haryana roadways officials said that buses to all villages from Panchkula city, including Morni area run from city bus stand. On the demand of residents, Haryana Roadways recently started multiple bus services throughout the day to provide connectivity with Delhi and other states including Punjab and Himachal Pradesh from Sector 5 bus stand.
